Our Stories of Hope
LIFE recovery FROM ADDICTION
At Hope in the Valley, we care deeply because we’ve been through the struggle of addiction ourselves. Our team knows what it’s like to feel lost, and we’re here to help others find hope and healing. We offer full support to help people break free from addiction and take back their lives. Our center is a place of comfort, strength, and second chances—not just for our local community, but for anyone who needs help. Our program is based on biblical values. Everything we do starts with putting God first. In our counseling sessions, we help people look to God for strength, healing, and a new beginning. We believe real change comes from building a stronger relationship with Jesus Christ. Faith isn’t just part of what we offer—it’s at the heart of who we are. We walk beside people with truth and kindness, offering a place where they can grow in their faith and find real healing, inside and out.

Hope in the Valley
Paul Reed
A Journey of Faith, Family, and Empowerment
Paul Reed’s journey to sobriety is both deeply personal and profoundly transformative—a story that has become the foundation of his life’s mission to help others break free from addiction.
Born and raised in Sanford, Colorado, a quiet town tucked in the heart of the San Luis Valley, Paul struggled with addiction for many years before reaching his lowest point in 2007. Lost and hopeless, he entered a rehabilitation center, expecting little more than a place to rest. But instead, he found something life-changing: hope.
Through the unwavering support of the staff, his family, and fellow patients, Paul embraced the 12-step program, which became his pathway to healing. After completing 30 days in rehab, he transitioned into sober living, continued attending AA meetings, and worked diligently through the steps. As his recovery deepened, so did his desire to serve others. He began sponsoring individuals in recovery, guiding them through the same steps that had once given him a second chance.
That passion soon evolved into purpose. Paul co-founded Roofers in Recovery, a nonprofit that provides funding and support to help individuals—especially those in the trades—access treatment and maintain sobriety. His mission was clear: to give others the opportunity to reclaim their lives, just as he had.
In 2010, Paul met his wife, Kimberly, a kindred spirit who shared both his experience with addiction and his commitment to helping others. Their bond, rooted in shared struggle and hope, inspired them to dream bigger—to create something lasting together.
The spark for that dream came unexpectedly during a family gathering, when Paul’s sister Jamey mentioned a building for sale in Alamosa, just 14 miles from Sanford. That moment stirred something powerful in Paul and Kimberly. After prayerful reflection, they knew this was their calling: to build a place where people could begin again. The very next day, they made an offer—and Hope in the Valley was born.
Opening its doors in 2024, Hope in the Valley is far more than a rehabilitation center. It’s a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the power of community. Located in the very valley that shaped Paul’s life, the center stands as a beacon of hope for those struggling in darkness.
For Paul, this mission is personal. It’s a way to give back to the community that raised him and to ensure that no one faces the battle of addiction alone. With Kimberly by his side, his commitment to healing lives across the San Luis Valley—and beyond—is unwavering.
Hope in the Valley represents more than recovery. It’s a promise: that no matter how far someone has fallen, there is always a way forward, always a reason to hope.

Kim Reed
My Journey with Hope in the Valley: A Story of Faith, Family, and Empowerment
My journey truly began in 2010 when I met my husband, Paul Reed, whose life had been deeply shaped by his struggles with addiction. His past experiences weren’t hidden or forgotten—they became a source of strength. Paul wears his story like a badge of empowerment, not to dwell on who he once was, but to shine a light on how far he has come. His passion for helping others and his dedication to sobriety have always been close to his heart, a mission I came to appreciate and value deeply. What makes this mission even more personal for me is that I have also faced my battles with addiction. Overcoming those challenges gave me a new perspective on life and ignited a desire within me to help others who are walking the same difficult path. I know firsthand the darkness that can come with addiction, but I also know the power of recovery—the hope and light that can be found on the other side. This shared experience with Paul is what drives both of us to create something that can truly make a difference. One day, during a family gathering to send off Paul’s nephew on his mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a conversation sparked something in me. Paul’s sister, Jamey Reynolds, casually mentioned that a building was for sale in Alamosa. I hadn’t imagined opening a rehabilitation center before, but the idea stirred something within me. It felt like a calling. That evening, I prayed about it, seeking guidance. The answer was clear. The very next day, we made an offer on that building, and from that moment, the seeds of Hope in the Valley were planted. For me, this journey is about more than creating a space for recovery. It’s about empowerment—showing others that no matter the darkness they face, there is always light ahead. It’s about helping people find their strength, just as Paul and I did, and offering them hope when they need it most. Hope in the Valley is a place where people can come to rediscover themselves, heal, and build a new future. It’s our way of giving back to the community of Alamosa and leaving a lasting impact for years to come.

Hope in the Valley Story
The Origin Story of Hope in the Valley: A Vision for Change and Lasting Impact
After purchasing the building, we were filled with both excitement and a deep sense of purpose. We knew we were stepping into a difficult but meaningful journey—one rooted in our desire to create a space that would bring real hope to those battling addiction, starting right here in Alamosa, a community that has always held a special place in our hearts.
Our passion for recovery wasn’t new. Years earlier, Paul and I founded a 501(c)(3) called Roofers in Recovery, helping individuals in the trades find their way to sobriety by funding their treatment. We saw lives transformed when people were simply given a chance—and that experience fueled our desire to do even more.
With Hope in the Valley, we saw an opportunity to expand that mission—to reach beyond our industry and create a broader, lasting impact. That vision came into sharper focus when we brought in Justin Luke Riley, a powerful voice in the recovery community with his own story of overcoming addiction. What started as a consulting relationship quickly turned into something much deeper. Within two weeks, we became partners, united by a shared calling to help people reclaim their lives and find lasting freedom from addiction.
Hope in the Valley is not just a rehab center. It’s a place of restoration, a lifeline for those who feel lost. Our goal is to bring transformative healing to individuals and meaningful change to Alamosa—empowering people to overcome addiction, rebuild their lives, and rediscover their worth.
We believe that recovery is possible for everyone. And we’re committed to walking beside each person on that path. Our hope is that Hope in the Valley becomes more than a facility—it becomes a beacon for this community, a symbol of what’s possible when compassion, resilience, and purpose come together to change lives.
