Our Stories of Hope
LIFE recovery FROM ADDICTION
At Hope in the Valley, we care deeply because we’ve been through the struggle of addiction ourselves. Our team knows what it’s like to feel lost, and we’re here to help others find hope and healing. We offer full support to help people break free from addiction and take back their lives. Our center is a place of comfort, strength, and second chances—not just for our local community, but for anyone who needs help.
Our program is based on biblical values. Everything we do starts with putting God first. In our counseling sessions, we help people look to God for strength, healing, and a new beginning. We believe real change comes from building a stronger relationship with Jesus Christ.
Faith isn’t just part of what we offer—it’s at the heart of who we are. We walk beside people with truth and kindness, offering a place where they can grow in their faith and find real healing, inside and out.

Hope in the Valley
Paul Reed
A Journey of Faith, Family, and Empowerment
Paul Reed’s path to sobriety is deeply personal and has become the foundation of his life’s mission to help others. Born and raised in Sanford, Colorado—a small town nestled in the San Luis Valley—Paul struggled with addiction for many years, eventually hitting rock bottom in 2007. Feeling hopeless and lost, he entered a rehabilitation center, not expecting much beyond a chance to rest. However, what he found during his time there was much more—he discovered a glimmer of hope that he could live a sober life. Supported by the rehab staff, his family, and fellow patients, Paul embraced the 12-step program, and it became his lifeline to recovery.
After 30 days in rehab, Paul moved into sober living, where he continued to attend AA meetings and work through the steps. His newfound sobriety inspired a desire to serve others, and over time, he began sponsoring individuals in recovery, guiding them through the very steps that had saved him. As his passion for helping others grew, Paul co-founded Roofers in Recovery, a nonprofit dedicated not only to providing financial support for rehab but also to guiding individuals through the recovery process and helping them stay sober.
In 2010, Paul’s life took another transformative turn when he met his wife, Kimberly. Together, they shared a deep commitment to the mission of helping others struggling with addiction. Their shared experiences with addiction strengthened their bond and ignited their collective vision to do more.
One day, during a family gathering, Paul’s sister, Jamey, mentioned that a building in Alamosa—just 14 miles from Sanford—was for sale. It sparked an idea in both Paul and Kimberly. After much prayer and reflection, they felt called to create something bigger—a place where people could find hope and begin their journey to recovery. The very next day, they made an offer on the building, and Hope in the Valley was born.
Opening in 2024, Hope in the Valley stands as a beacon of hope and healing in Alamosa, part of the larger San Luis Valley that Paul has always called home. For Paul, this rehabilitation center is more than just a facility—it’s a deeply personal mission to give back to the community that shaped him and to help others discover the strength to overcome their struggles with addiction. With Kimberly by his side, Paul’s commitment to creating lasting change in the San Luis Valley and beyond is unwavering. Hope in the Valley represents the power of recovery, community, and the belief that no matter how dark the journey is, there is always light ahead.

Kim Reed
My Journey with Hope in the Valley: A Story of Faith, Family, and Empowerment
My journey truly began in 2010 when I met my husband, Paul Reed, whose life had been deeply shaped by his struggles with addiction. His past experiences weren’t hidden or forgotten—they became a source of strength. Paul wears his story like a badge of empowerment, not to dwell on who he once was, but to shine a light on how far he has come. His passion for helping others and his dedication to sobriety have always been close to his heart, a mission I came to appreciate and value deeply.
What makes this mission even more personal for me is that I have also faced my battles with addiction. Overcoming those challenges gave me a new perspective on life and ignited a desire within me to help others who are walking the same difficult path. I know firsthand the darkness that can come with addiction, but I also know the power of recovery—the hope and light that can be found on the other side. This shared experience with Paul is what drives both of us to create something that can truly make a difference.
One day, during a family gathering to send off Paul’s nephew on his mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a conversation sparked something in me. Paul’s sister, Jamey Reynolds, casually mentioned that a building was for sale in Alamosa. I hadn’t imagined opening a rehabilitation center before, but the idea stirred something within me. It felt like a calling.
That evening, I prayed about it, seeking guidance. The answer was clear. The very next day, we made an offer on that building, and from that moment, the seeds of Hope in the Valley were planted.
For me, this journey is about more than creating a space for recovery. It’s about empowerment—showing others that no matter the darkness they face, there is always light ahead. It’s about helping people find their strength, just as Paul and I did, and offering them hope when they need it most. Hope in the Valley is a place where people can come to rediscover themselves, heal, and build a new future. It’s our way of giving back to the community of Alamosa and leaving a lasting impact for years to come.

Hope in the Valley Story
The Origin Story of Hope in the Valley: A Vision for Change and Lasting Impact
After purchasing the building, we were filled with excitement and hope, but we also knew we were embarking on a challenging journey. Our hearts were set on creating a space that could truly make a difference in the lives of those struggling with addiction, starting right here in Alamosa, the community that has always meant so much to us.
Our commitment to this cause wasn’t new. Previously, Paul and I had built a 501(c)(3) organization called Roofers in Recovery, which focused on helping individuals in the trades we worked with find a path to sobriety by sending them to rehabilitation. We had witnessed firsthand the transformative power of giving someone the chance to rebuild their life, and it fueled our passion to do more. We knew that through Hope in the Valley, we could extend this mission beyond our immediate circle and make an even bigger impact.
When we brought in Justin Luke Riley, a passionate advocate for recovery with his own story of overcoming addiction, everything started to fall into place. Originally joining us as a consultant, it didn’t take long before we realized we shared the same drive, the same vision—to help people struggling with addiction reclaim their lives and find lasting hope. Two weeks later, we became partners, fully committed to creating something that would not only help people heal but would also leave a lasting impact on the community of Alamosa.
Hope in the Valley is more than just a rehabilitation center. It’s a lifeline, a place where people can come to find hope when they feel like all is lost. Our goal is to bring meaningful change to Alamosa by empowering individuals to take control of their lives, heal from addiction, and rediscover their potential. We are driven by the belief that recovery is possible for everyone, and we are committed to walking alongside each person on their journey to sobriety.
As we continue this mission, we hope that Hope in the Valley will stand as a beacon of change and compassion for years to come—a lasting testament to the power of community, recovery, and the resilience of the human spirit.
